Frequently asked questions
How do margin and markup differ?
With a cost of 100 and a selling price of 150, profit is 50. Markup is 50 / 100 × 100 = 50%, while margin is 50 / 150 × 100 ≈ 33.33%.
How do I find a price for a target margin?
Price = cost / (1 − margin / 100). A cost of 100 with a target margin of 20% gives a price of 125. The target must be below 100%.
Is this net profit?
This is the difference between price and entered cost. Taxes, fees and other expenses are not calculated separately. Use comparable amounts, for example both excluding VAT.
